Question about delaying the meps program?

I was scheduled to go to meps this week, but my father is having more heart problems after 4 heart attacks. I told the recruiter I couldn't go this week and he kinda got crappy with me, now I'm kinda nervous to tell him id like to wait at least another 2 weeks before I make the commitment to the navy just to be sure my dad will be ok. Will there be any penalties or drawbacks for doing this besides for an attitude from the recruiter?
